The sale of the plot went through reasonable quickly (for France), so we returned from England to sign all the relevant documents and take possession of the land, It was the beginning of February 2008 and our adventure had started for real.

The first thing we really had to do was to fence of the land on our left hand side, we hadn't yet met our immediate neighbours but we could see by all the track marks on our plot that delivery lorries had been using it to get to next door, this I'm afraid had to stop.

We decided to go out the very next day and get all of the materials we would need to run the fence-line.

Now we're not in England and we have no clue where to go to buy this stuff so time to do some research on the Internet and of course ask someone!. We were directed to a town called "Confolens" about 10 to 15  minutes north from Chabrac and a shop called "Bricomarche", a bit like B&Q back in England, there we found everything we needed: Fencing, Fence Posts, Clips, Wire, etc, plus our first tool for the build ahead and for this particular job, and my wife signed up for her first store card :-)  also en-route we spotted a LIDL that would become one of our usual shopping haunts :-) also the Gendarmarie and our local Marie.

Now as I mentioned at the beginning it was early February and we had come in full winter regalia, but by the time we had returned to our plot it was quite hot and we had to take some stuff off.

Now we have never done a fence before, yep I know it's not rocket science, but hey it's our first time. First of all we had to make sure the fence posts were spaced correctly, then came the task of hammering them into the land, and make sure they're not coming out again!

Fairly easy until you realise you have about 120 meters to do. By the time we had done this and the supports as well, that was the day gone. We returned the next day to attach the wire fencing to the posts, that was fun and games trying to unroll a 25m roll, as it kept springing back, that was definitely  a 2 man job, well 1 man and 1 woman :-) again by the time we had attached the fencing and clipped it all, that was another day gone, but very satisfying......

Job No 1 done :-)
