Getting Power & Water Onto The Plot  -  May 2009

For some reason, we seemed to have lost the photo's that would relate to this section, but there is a short (Video Clip Here)

The next important job we really need to do is to get some Electricity and Water onto the plot, can't do much work without the basics, and that includes moving our caravan from our friends field onto our plot.
After some research and asking around, we contacted EDF and SAUR, both of which have English speaking lines thankfully....It was a much easier task than I was lead to believe by some of the people we had spoken to, we had to wait a couple of weeks, but they just turned up one day while we we weren't there, we turned up one day just to see if they had been, and there was our Temporary Electric box and our standpipe, fantastic, we can now move the caravan.

We spoke to Gill & Mark that evening, and Mark agreed to move the caravan for us the next day. (Video Clip Here)
We decided  to position the caravan about halfway up the plot on the left-hand side (Video Clip Here), once it was in positioned and levelled, we then had to run a cable from the Electric box to the caravan, had a dig around in the car and found about 3 longish leads, we connected them all together which just reached the caravan, this was only going to be very temporary, just to get the kettle on :-)  Also filled up our big plastic container with water from the standpipe to keep us going, on the last trip back to England I purchased a 12v high volume water pump for the caravan, which was working very well, all the plumbing in the caravan was now working properly  :-)

The next day we went off the Bricomarche to get the correct cable to run from the electricity box to the caravan and some hose pipe to run water directly into the caravan, and also for the new vegetable bed that Jill was preparing. We ended up getting 2 50 metre lengths of pipe, and all the relevant fittings of course  :-)

Once we got back to the plot, I rigged up the both the new electric cable and the hose pipe.
There was one other thing we initially hadn't considered, we needed to get rid of our waste somehow, this needed to be done about every 3 days, I know it probably not the done thing, if not completely illegal, but I decided to dig a large pit in the top left hand corner of the plot underneath one of the oak tree's, as we didn't want any nasty odours coming from the pit, I thought it would be a good idea to have a bag of lime and a small shovel to hand by the pit to cover the waste, it worked a treat, no smells and more importantly no complaints  :-)
